The Lighthouse Mentality

In this post I‘m sharing with you personal experiences and bible knowledge to help you cope in dark times. The lighthouse mentality is based on a vision I had in church one day while praying and it has helped me ever since.

My Vision in Church

One day in church, I prayed for guidance and strength. In my inner eye, I suddenly had a quick vision of a lighthouse with a pulsing light. I was confused at first, but then I started reflecting on the fact that everything happens for a reason and that it wasn't‘t for nothing.

This thought came to me: God is the lighthouse we should look to whenever we are lost in the ocean. From that day on, I adopted this mentality, and I am thrilled to share it with you in the hope that it can become a part of your life too.

The Metaphor

We can see God as a lighthouse in many ways. Just like a lighthouse, He guides us to safety when we feel unstable. He gives us hope and reminds us that we’re not alone and that there is a way forward out of our mess. Through all the darkness and depths of our oceans, His light remains constant and unwavering.

As Psalm 119:105 says: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

He stands tall and is made to guide us to find our way back. When we‘re in the middle of the ocean and feel alone, there is Something bigger than us to help and support us.

Faith

I completely understand how hard it is to keep faith during dark times. It often feels like God isn’t doing anything or isn’t showing His presence. But that’s precisely when faith is most needed—and what it’s all about.

Faith in God means believing that He is working, even if change isn’t physically visible. It means believing with your heart that He is transforming you and working for your good. Faith requires letting go of human, rational thinking and trusting in something far greater than ourselves.

Visualize the lighthouse and hold on to the hope of better days, knowing you’ll get through this. Trust that His light shines through the fog and every storm. I encourage you to see trials and hardships as opportunities to grow—both as a person and in your faith.

Focus on the Lighthouse

Often, when we feel like we’re drowning in deep waters, we look for worldly ways to save ourselves—ways that often lead to even more pain. The lighthouse mentality reminds us to focus on God. Worldly solutions might provide temporary relief, but with God, we find lasting peace and joy.

While it may be difficult at first to trust Him with everything, the results are transformative.

Reflect God’s Light

As children of God, we are called to spread His love and light to the world:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (see Matthew 5:14-16).

This means sharing your love for God with others, performing acts of kindness, and treating people with love rather than judgment. It means embracing His love for you and reflecting it through your actions and attitudes. In this way, you honor Him and fulfill your mission as a daughter or son of God.

Practical Tips and Bible Verses

I encourage you to pray, reflect, and journal about how God has guided you in the past. Focus on His light and remember every time He brought you out of a dark place. Even though it may have been hard, you made it through. The lighthouse has always been there, but God wants you to seek it out the next time you face struggles.

Whether your challenges involve relationships, career, or health, this mentality can be applied to all areas of life.

In Proverbs 3:5-6 we are advised to trust the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding. Trust him like sailors trust the lighthouse.

In Psalm 18:28 we learn that God keeps your lamp burning and he turns your darkness into light.

In Psalm 27:1 God tells us He is our light and salvation. Just like a lighthouse He brings us safely to the shore. Who and what should we fear, when God is on our side?

Conclusion

Dear Sister or Brother in Christ, my hope is that this mentality helps you navigate your stormy days. May it remind you that, even when it feels like no one else is there, God is watching over you and guiding you back to the path where you belong.

Never forget to trust Him and never lose faith. This world is becoming darker, clouded by the enemy’s lies, but especially in these times, we must hold on to Him. I promise, you won’t regret it.

May your light shine brightly, and may God bless you.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

My Personal Experience

Have you ever felt empty and as though you were left alone in the midst of a storm and darkness? Fighting to see some light while the waves rise higher and the night seems never to end?

That’s exactly how I felt during a very bad period of my life not so long ago. It felt like I was lost on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I alternated between isolating myself, partying, drinking, and hanging out with the wrong crowd.

But on that boat in the dark ocean, I began to see a flickering light. It was God reaching for my hand. I accepted Him back into my life and watched as He completely turned my life upside down.
