Surviving Your Twenties: How To Keep Walking With Jesus

As we all know, your twenties might be some of the most challenging years of your life. Your emotions are all over the place, you feel like you’re supposed to have everything figured out, you’re too old to be a kid but too young to be an adult, and on top of that, everyone expects you to know everything about life. Do you relate to this? Because these are exactly the emotions I’m feeling right now.
As I’m turning 23 in less than three months, I can honestly say my twenties so far have been a complete mess. It’s felt more like a sitcom than real life. I’ve started feeling an immense pressure out of nowhere—the kind of pressure I’ve never felt before. Pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way, find the right person before it’s “too late,” have kids, land the right job, and make enough money. Sometimes, it all seems impossible to live this life without putting too much pressure on yourself. You want to take it easy, but somehow everything feels like it’s crashing down.
It’s so important to keep your faith during these times of trials and tribulations and keep your eyes on God—especially because the enemy will try to tempt you in so many ways.
You Are Not Alone
Most of the time, we feel like we’re completely alone with these emotions, like our feelings are unique and no one can understand us. But guess what? Every feeling you’ve ever felt is one that someone else has felt before. Everyone on this planet has experienced—or will experience—hard times like this. We’re all just trying to figure out life and dealing with pain at the same time.
Personally, it helps to remind myself that everyone in their twenties is going through something similar, and I’m not the only one “sucking” at life, lol. Try going to a local church to meet people and share your emotions. You can even look for an online community if that’s more your thing.
If you’re feeling lonely or isolated like I do sometimes, remember that when everything else fails, God is here to support you. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. And don’t forget, He will never leave you or forsake you (see Hebrews 13:5).
Social Media Impact
Let’s talk about the impact of social media because many of us don’t realize how much it influences us. It can seem like everyone else has their life together—the perfect job, perfect body, and perfect lifestyle. We start comparing ourselves and feeling unhappy and ungrateful with our own lives. We lose sight of what’s real and start feeling like failures.
That’s why it’s so important to remind ourselves that social media is not always what it seems. I encourage you to limit your time on social platforms and monitor who you follow. Focus on people who inspire you to grow in your relationship with God. Take regular breaks, spend time in nature, and enjoy hobbies that ground you. Don‘t forget that we‘re all so young still, no matter how much society wants to make us feel old. We are allowed to make mistakes, learn and just live life.
Here are some Bible verses to help you stay centered in God’s light:
• “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).
• “Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word” (Psalm 119:37).
What the Bible Says About Trust
The Bible teaches us to trust in God, especially when times get tough. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding. When we submit to Him in all ways, He will make our paths straight.
In fearful times, cast your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). I know it’s natural to want control over the direction of your life, but surrendering to Him—even when you don’t fully understand—is the ultimate act of faith.
One thing that has helped me rebuild trust in God is writing down all the ways He’s been faithful to me in the past. Reflecting on all the times He’s helped me through tough situations reminds me that He’s always working for my good.
Conclusion
Your twenties aren’t going to be easy. They’re a season of self-discovery and growth, and they can feel overwhelming at times. But don’t give in to the negativity—it only feeds the traps the enemy sets. Instead, see this as a formative time in your life. God is shaping your character and preparing you for something greater.
Remember, you’re not walking this journey alone.
I pray that you find strength in Jesus and discover the unique and beautiful person He created you to be.
