Becoming the best version of yourself in 2025: Honoring God Through Your Lifestyle

12/28/20244 min read

To be honest, I’ve never been the biggest fan of New Year’s resolutions, and I know a lot of people are tired of hearing about them too. But stick with me for a second. Personally, I believe in constant self-reflection and the idea of renewing yourself regularly, not just when a new year starts.

But let’s be real—there’s something about the New Year that inspires us to change and grow. It’s like a fresh slate, and we all have areas where we can improve. As we grow closer to God, it’s our responsibility to honor Him through our life decisions. Like it says in 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

That’s why it’s so important to align your personal growth with your faith and values.

Becoming Your Best Version of Yourself

So, what does it even mean to be the best version of yourself? It’s not about being perfect in every decision or never messing up. Instead, it’s about surrendering your life to God’s purpose and finding the unique plan He has for you.

God wants you to grow closer to Him—through prayer, studying the Bible, and worship. He also wants you to use your gifts and talents to share His love and spread the gospel. The New Year is the perfect time to remind yourself that God’s plan for your life is bigger than anything you could ever imagine.

5 Areas to Grow in 2025

Relationships

We’re made to connect with others, even if you’re an introvert (like me). Surrounding yourself with good, God-honoring friends can leave you feeling refreshed and supported.

If you’ve been struggling with relationships that feel toxic or pull you away from God, maybe it’s time to let them go. I know how hard that can be. I’ve had to let go of some friendships over the years, and it hurt. But God has opened so many better doors since then.

Not sure how to handle this? Pray and ask God to remove anything or anyone from your life that’s harmful or doesn’t bring Him glory. Trust Him—He’s always working for your good.

Also, don’t forget about forgiveness. Forgiving people who’ve hurt you isn’t just about letting them off the hook; it’s about freeing yourself from bitterness. (See Matthew 6:14-15.) I know it’s hard, but remember, we’ve all made mistakes, and God forgave us first through Jesus.

Physical Health

I know you’re probably over hearing about healthy eating and working out, but stay with me! Taking care of your body is so important—it’s the temple that holds your soul. Why damage something God designed so intentionally?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says we’re not our own; we were bought at a price. That means we should honor God with our bodies.

• Eat a balanced diet, but don’t force yourself to eat things you hate just because they’re trendy. You only like zucchini? Eat zucchini.

• Find an exercise you enjoy—it’s not about being perfect but about feeling strong and healthy.

• Avoid alcohol abuse, even if it’s normalized in society. Don’t let anyone make you feel boring for choosing not to drink. (See Proverbs 20:1.)

And please, don’t forget to take a Sabbath rest each week. It’s a chance to recharge and spend time with God. (See Leviticus 23:3.)

Faith

If you want to grow in 2025, your spiritual life should be a priority. Maybe, like me, you’ve been skipping your Bible reading or haven‘t been talking much to God.

If you are unsure on where there‘s room for growth and your vision is foggy, ask God to open your heart and show you where you need to grow spiritually. And don’t get discouraged if you feel far from Him sometimes. It’s normal, and it happens to all of us. Stay focused, and remember: the Holy Spirit is with you, even when things feel cloudy. Don‘t compare your journey to other people and remind yourself that you'll feel Jesus again.

Set Goals

Set some goals for yourself in the New Year as it helps to keep you grounded and ambitious. Whether it’s starting a new hobby, pursuing a dream, or trying something out of your comfort zone, take a leap of faith. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just pray and trust that God will guide you. Don‘t let people tell you what you can and can‘t do. If you‘re afraid do it anyway.

Serve Others

Find ways to serve others, whether it’s at church, in your community, or through a cause that’s close to your heart. When you use your gifts to bless others, you reflect God’s love in the world. Small or big, your acts of kindness don’t go unnoticed by God.
